Winter Monthly Time Trials

Guests take top spots in Monthly Time Trial

Cross country purists will say the ingredients of an ideal course are days of successive rain, mix in 10,000 feet to soften up the ground then top off with a light frost on the morning itself.

Such conditions greeted the ?time trialists? for the November event, the Calley having played host to the annual fire works the previous evening. On ground that could euphemistically be called ?soft?, athletes faced a true test of endurance over the 3 mile trail.

With fast times ruled out, performances would give a good indicator of early season strength and stamina.

Unfortunately, none of our seniors took advantage of the opportunity and it was left to former Harriers, Stevie Moore and Lynne Murray to set the fastest times of the day. Stevie who has been plagued with injury over the summer, was delighted to signal a return to form with a time only slightly slower than his best last year.

Lynne used the strength gained from her marathons to combat the challenge from daughter Hazel, holding a narrow eight second advantage by the finish.

In turn, Hazel held off the fast finishing Sarah Hamilton by only fourteen seconds.

Next month, coach Gordon dons the famous red jacket to distribute seasonal fare to all participants- now if that wasn?t an incentive to come along and give the TT series a go, what is?

Goodwill to all men (and all that), on Saturday 11 December, look for the red sleigh in the Calley car park!
