Winter Monthly Time Trials

Lucy and Hazel go head to head at time trial!

With the various other attractions of marathons, kilomarathons, StrathCarron and the McAndrew taking place over the weekend, getting athletes out for the first winter time trial was always going to be challenging.

On a perfect Autumnal morning and with an absence of any other competitors to distract them, it fell to juniors Lucy Mitchell and Hazel Murray to record the first times of the new season.

Hazel drew the short straw and led off, followed a minute later by Lucy. As usual Lucy was quickly into her running and by half way looked like she might catch the Laurieston athlete.

However, one of Hazel’s strengths is her pacing ability and realising that the deceptive climb from Callendar Road would prove significant, she saved enough to hold off Lucy’s challenge.

The philosophy of the time trial series is to promote progressive improvement and this was demonstrated by Lucy taking 19 seconds from her own course record and Hazel knocking a massive 72 seconds from the time she set at the corresponding fixture last year.

Both performances indicate our junior athletes are ready and raring to go for the forthcoming XC season!

Next month, aspiring time trialists have their first opportunity to post a time over the classic Harriers 3 mile course. Meet at Callendar House car park at 9.30 with first off at 10.00am.
