Winter Monthly Time Trials

Records tumble in December time trial!

While conditions may have been raw and foggy, performances logged in this month’s time trial were sizzling hot!

Whether it was ‘inducements’ from ‘Santas’ Mitchell and Murray or the opportunity to run over ground that didn’t resemble the Somme, a record 13 time trialists stepped up for the challenge of the shorter 1.5 Caley course.

Impressive performances were the order of the day with every athlete who had participated in the last 1.5 TT in October being rewarded with a ‘PB’.

Keely Wilkinson improved by a massive 42 seconds and picked up the ‘Time Trialist of the Month’ Trophy which is awarded to the person showing the biggest improvement on their previous time.

Julie Hunter celebrated selection for the East District cross country team by posting with Sarah Hamilton a joint new junior course record of 10.23.

Competition in the senior division was equally impressive with last month’s record holder Stevie Moore looking to ‘complete the double’ over the shorter trail. Having warmed up with a modest 9.35 lap, Stevie set off looking to revise the course record.

His determination was duly rewarded with a speedy 8.40. But such is the beauty of the time trial format that President Andy who was out on the course was unaware of the time posted by Stevie.

As Andy neared the finish the assembled crowds realised that a fast time was on the cards and roared him on. Using his years of track experience to the full, Andy upped a gear and his sprint finish gave him a 4 second advantage over Stevie.

“Must have been the shortest course record in history.”  Stevie ruefully remarked afterwards, “Lasted only two minutes!”

Christine Eadie also recreated her own bit of history by becoming the first senior female Harrier to participate in the series and duly set a new course record!

Next month’s time trial on the 9 January reverts back to the 3 mile trail and should provide excellent preparation for the rigours of the league match at Broxburn the following week.

Look forward to seeing you at 9.30!
