Summer Monthly Time Trials

Marriage puts a spring in Tony’s step!

Married life does not seem to have blunted Tony Devlin’s running prowess. Newly returned from honeymoon in Hawaii, Tony repelled all comers keen to get their hands on his 5k Time Trial course record.

Defending his 17.39 time from last year in perfect spring conditions, the Maddiston mirage’ quickly receded into the Airth heat haze.

Official time keeper Gordon Mitchell was first to spot Tony as he approached the deceptively long finishing straight. Urged on by the assembled multitudes, speedster Tony still had time to check his watch before breasting the tape in 17.25, fourteen seconds inside his 2010 mark.

TT newcomer Russell McAdam displayed excellent pacing to record the second fastest time of the day in 17.57, just ahead of Japanese guest Tominora Ogata (or Tam for short) who recorded a highly creditable 18.09

Guest runner, Lynne Murray who like many of the Harrier’s senior squad makes the trip down to London next weekend, showed her marathon preparation is on track when taking eleven seconds from her course record. Lynne’s clocking of 19.50 was also the first time the twenty minute barrier has been broken by a female athlete.

Elaine Paterson also displayed excellent speed when knocking a massive 3 minutes from the best time she recorded last year.

Kelly Bissett became one of the youngest people to complete the 5k, finishing in just over 26 minutes.

Last year’s double Scottish track champion, Craig Johnston (as he was keen to remind your correspondent), may get the opportunity to turn the tables on the endurance fraternity next month when the Time Trial series moves to the classic Callendar Park course.

Everyone (young, old or like Craig over 45) is most welcome to see what time they can record for a mile. First runner should be off at 9.45 approx on Saturday 7th. May.
