Self Transcendence 5k/Road Race Championship round 3

11th May 2011

Round 3 of FVH's Road Running championships incorporated the 2nd round of the Stewarts road running GP, bringing out the 'who's who' of Scottish road running to a super fast course along the promenade at Silverknowes in Edinburgh's west end.  It also brought out 19 falkirk runners, a record for any road race, and ensured that there would be plenty of competition amongst the pack.

The route at Silverknowes is as flat as as pancake, with elevation change only a matter of feet.  It takes in the same route as the Edinburgh Parkrun, but starts and finishes at the tea room on the promenade.

30 minutes before the race, the heavens opened and the wind started to howl. Conditions did not look good for fast times, however 5 minutes before the hooter went, the clouds broke and the wind died away, allowing perfect running conditions. This was a god send for all runners, as a number of vics notched new pb's or season best's on the night.

Round 4 and 5 of the road running championships take us to Dunblane on the 29th for a 7.5m run, and to Strathallan on the 4th June near Perth for a 5 mile race. Entries are very limited for both events, so online entry asap is urge for runners wishing to race.
