Scottish National Senior Championships

Scotstoun Stadium

10th- 11th August 2013

A number of young Vic’s were in action in the Scottish Senior Track and Field Championships which took place at Scotstoun, Glasgow on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th August. The championships were the best supported for a number of years with most of Scotland’s top athletes present in all events. The exceptions being the seven who are currently at the World Championships representing GB&NI in Moscow. This made for tough and exciting competion in all events, however the Vic’s rose magnificently to the challenge.

Kenny Robertson threw 47.96metres to win the Silver medal in the Javelin in one of Saturday’s first events to set the tone for a weekend of great performances by local athletes. Fraser Weir performed well against two athletes with Commonwealth Games standard clearances to win the Bronze medal in the High Jump on Sunday with a clearance of 1m 94cm. Richard Hurren competing for his British League Club Newham and Essex Beagles in a rare competitive appearance this season won Silver in a Pole Vault Competition which saw the Scottish Native Record bettered. Both Fraser and Richard competing in difficult windy conditions for jumpers.

Myra Perkins (Hammer 53.12m) and Selina Henderson (100m 12.16secs) were 4th in their respective events, while Grant Plenderleith was 5th in a top quality 400m final in a time of 49.18secs. Selina and Grant were competing in their first senior championships and Selina’s performance is remarkable given she is just 15 years of age. Alison Black was 7th equal clearing 1m 52cm in the women’s high jump; Dale Colley ran very well (3rd heat 4min 03.79secs) to qualify for the men’s 1500m final where he finished 10th in a tactical wind effected race in 4min 12.29secs. Euan Martin was unlucky to be drawn in the fastest heat of the men’s 800m but competed well finishing 6th in a time of 1min 59.35secs.
