Scottish Junior Road Race Championships

Rouken Glen Park 20th March 2011

History made by Leia at Scottish Junior Road Race Championships

Leia Glading rounded off her winter season in fine style on Sunday becoming the first Harrier to win a junior road championship title.
From the gun Leia displayed her characteristic front running style and quickly built up a commanding lead over the 70 strong field. By the time she crossed the finishing line she had extended this to over 100 metres.

Three other Harrier’s also competed in the U13 race, Erin Pringle was 40th, Kelly Bissett  47th and Jennifer Anderson finished 54th.

However, there was disappointment for our U17 women who narrowly failed to retain the team title they won last year.
Competing against a strong Edinburgh team who included Caithness based National XC champion Emma Dunnett, our girls finished only 5 points adrift.
This was despite Lucy Mitchell (7th) Hazel Murray (8th) and Abby Kemp (14th) all running personal bests and finishing with a lower points total than last year!
Our U15 girls also fielded a team but finished out of the medals, Julie Hunter was 26th, Natalie McLeod was 27th and Helen Ainslie was 41st.

In three of the boys’ races we fielded a sole competitor, U13 Cameron Smith was 53rd, U17 Scott Stirling was a creditable 18th and in the final race of the day, U20 Euan Martin was 27th.
