Masters One Two for Beryl and Fiona and Silver for Ian

The British Masters 10km Road Race Championships returned to Scotland for the first time in many years. Held in conjunction with the Scottish Veteran Harriers Club Glasgow 800 10km in Pollock Park three Vic’s were part of a large field which toed the narrow start line of the two lap course.

Fiona Matheson, warmed up for Senior Scotland duty in Dublin over 10 miles next weekend by leading the ladies field for much of the race before being over hauled by fellow Internationalist Joasia Zakrzewski of Dumfries Running Club in the W35 category (36 min 06secs) to finish in a very close second place overall in 36 min 20 secs whilst winning her own W50 category. In a great day for the Vic’s, Beryl Junnier ran very well to finish runner up to Fiona and win the W50 Silver medal in 40min 35secs finishing 13th in the overall ladies race.

In what is believed to be a first for the club Ian Donaldson competed in the road walking race, over the same 10km course finishing second overall in a time of 73 minutes 49 seconds for the six and a quarter mile course.

Ian apart, unfortunately no men availed themselves of the opportunity to compete on home soil for British Medals with three assisting on the day by stewarding and supporting the two ladies and Ian as team medals undoubtedly went a begging.
