Glasgow Half-Marathon 6th September

A large contingent from the road running section took part in the Glasgow Half-Marathon, one of them Barry Paterson kindly submited this short report:

The Glasgow 10k and Half Marathon runs have always proved popular with runners due to its fast flat course, and this year it proved to be no exception, with nearly 15000 runners competing on Sunday, either in the 10k or half marathon that was on offer. The 10k'ers managed to get a dry run, where as the half marathoners got drenched....trust me.

The half marathon went back to its original route, so there was no mountain to climb that was St Vincent Street as per last year. As it ran its way out onto Paisley Road, so the rain began. More of a slight drizzle then onto proper rain. By the time the runners went through the half way marker in Pollock Park, the damp, dreary conditions turned the surface a little slippy. As usual, the support around Glasgow was fantastic, with encouragment being shouted at you from left and right, with pipers at every mile marker, bands, guitarist and even DJ's braving the rain to entertain the runners. The last 1.1 mile in Glasgow Green seemed to go on for ever, around one corner, then another, then another! Plenty of people lined the side, even alot of 10k athletes cheering on friends and family into the finish. A good day out, the weather suiting some people...maybe not others.
